Our Story: Why We Built Venation

Founded in 2021 by Gert-Jan Bruggink, Venation was born from a frustration with traditional threat intelligence that offered reports but not solutions to help address root causes.

Our Mission

We exist to give organizations clarity and confidence in the moments that matter.
Venation turns complex risks into actionable practice - helping teams see what’s coming, decide faster, and strengthen resilience every time they train.

Our Team

Leadership

Gert-Jan Bruggink, Founder & CEO

After building and leading threat intelligence teams at Fortune 500 companies, Gert-Jan founded Venation to bridge the gap between threat information and practically implementing defenses. His experience spans 15+ years in cybersecurity leadership roles.

Martyn Gill, Fractional COO

After more than two decades in military, government and industry cybersecurity leadership, Martyn Gill co-founded ORNA Inc to innovate the field of incident response and established various venture studio initiatives to help entrepreneurs win.

Our Global Team

We’re a distributed group of scenario designers, facilitators, and analysts - united by the belief that resilience should be something people do, not just document.

We're Different By Design

  • Practitioners First: Our team has managed real security operations, not just advised from the sidelines
  • Co-Creation Model: We develop scenarios with active security professionals from industry to ensure practical relevance
  • Implementation Focus: Every scenario includes step-by-step guides that security teams can deploy immediately
  • Global Perspective: Our virtual-first team spans multiple continents, providing 24/7 threat monitoring
